Additional Information The Qualities of bamboo "Mao bamboo" is one of the best types of bamboo harvested and manufactured into bamboo flooring planks. Our supplier, is one of the largest industrial and commercial ventures producing bamboo flooring products and was awarded the gold prize at the 1994 China construction and decorative material fair. They were awarded gold prize at the 1999 International bamboo industrial fair because of its exceptional quality. Unlike most hardwood trees requiring many years to grow to maturity, bamboo is an extremely fast growing grass. It can be harvested every 3 - 5 years and is renewably harvested over and over from the same plants. Choosing bamboo flooring means you also choose to preserve forests which take decades to replace. Bamboo flooring is available in either natural colour (light) or carbonized (coffee). The natural colour is in the product and not added into the process. The Carbonized colour is attained by subjecting the bamboo to high pressure steam, which weakens the fibers and thus, changes the colour. Due to this process, care should be used when laying out your floor to best match various shades which can occur in the bamboo product. Although it is very similar, after the carbonizing process it is very difficult to attain the exact shade of each piece thus, when installing it is best to unpack each area and make a careful selection of colour and grain to enhance the visual effect. Bamboo can be installed in the same way as all hardwood flooring, either nailed down, glued down, or both. Bamboo is stronger and more flexible than almost any wood flooring presently available. It is less blending than other hardwood. It is also harder than oak and maple, with minimal shrinkage and swelling compared to most woods. It is more dimensionally stable (less expansion and contraction) than any commonly used wood flooring. The lacquered flooring is factory finished using wear resistant UV lacquer, and is very easy and convenient to install. The un-lacquered flooring needs to be coated or waxed and polished after installation. This gives the customer / contractor leeway to finish the floor as they please. This type comes in both natural and carbonized colors. During the manufacturing process, the product is treated to prevent insect and mildew damage and, to conform to both residential and commercial fire prevention standards. Maintenance for this product is the same as most pre-finished products, light damp mop on occasion, and with frequents sweeping or vacuuming. Bamboo facts
